There is a side of Detroit’s electronic music scene that is rarely seen. As many of you know, the city is so incredibly rich in House and Techno talent and in my opinion, this talent doesn’t get the exposure it deserves. This is for a number of reasons which are not appropriate to go into here. What the dance music press chooses to and not to report on is definitely one factor. But just know I will always try to shed light on and showcase these kinds of artists through Black Catalogue and other means.
Our newest release comes from underground Detroit stalwart, Craig Sherard. “The Technician” is an extended EP of his signature vibe, which fuses funk with a timeless synthesized sound. This EP gives me serious Kraftwerk vibes with its sparse, melodic lo-slung tones. But it doesn’t stop there. We get to hear bits of Craig on the mic too, as he hypes up his tracks amidst sci-fi blasts and galactic sweeps. Dark disco and funk. Soul and R&B. Mid-tempo and House. This EP is a journey and Craig Sherrad is in control.
” I never wanted to compromise my abilities. I always wanted to create a zone that sonically possessed the fundamentals of techno, house, hip hop, tribal, nu-disco, dancehall, and soul music.”
—Craig Sherard.
This is a special Bandcamp Juneteenth release. As many of you know, June 19 is recognized as Juneteenth, the day of the emancipation of enslaved Black people in the United States. Bandcamp has announced they will donate 100% of their share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund on this day.
